Relaxation massage & Bodywork

Bodywork involves a diverse collection of massage modalities including relaxation massage, deep tissue massage, reflexology, sports massage, acupressure, and myofascial release.

Sometimes one or all techniques can be employed during a single treatment to more accurately target imbalances; this provides a more customized experience for the client to help reduce and eliminate imbalances that create barriers to optimal health and well-being.

Our team at TheraFlow is proud to possess the professional knowledge to make any mobile massage session customized to address your needs in a place of comfort.

1Deep Tissue Massage & Myofascial Release

Deep tissue massage is a method of bodywork that is aimed at releasing chronic tension patterns in connective tissues. Deep tissue massage is achieved by applying a deep, slow, and sensitive touch. Deep tissue massages primarily target a specific type of connective tissue known as Fascia.

Think of fascia (the connective tissue) like a plastic-esque substance that surrounds all of the muscles and individual muscle fibres. And the fascia that wraps all of the muscles is called myofascial.

Myofascia is the layer of connective tissue where more of the work is actually focused on.

2Swedish & Relaxation Massage

Swedish massage is the manipulation of body tissues using techniques like rubbing, kneading, or tapping (either with the hand or an instrument) for therapeutic purposes.

Modern science and technology has allowed us to document the physiological effects and benefits of massage.

These benefits would include the following:

  • Stretch tight muscles
  • Decrease pain
  • Increase circulation of blood & lymph
  • Removal of waste products
  • Improve mobility and flexibility
  • Increase postural awareness
  • Promotes a state of relaxation
  • Increases the overall sense of well-being

3Sports Massage

Although sports massages are an area of massage therapy that is continually growing and changing, the demand for sports massages still remains. Although popularized by elite athletes, sports massages can certainly be used effectively to treat the average weekend warrior.

They also have many positive physical effects like:

  • Increasing tissue permeability. This encourages our muscles to recover faster.
  • Stretching
  • Breaking down scar tissue which can help treat inflexible tissues that are prone to injury and pain.
  • Improving tissue elasticity
  • Opening microcirculation which helps increase blood flow to our tissues so that nutrients can be distributed more easily.

Reflexology is the involvement of application of pressure to specific points on the hands and feet.  The theory is that areas of the foot correspond to organs and systems of the body and therefore pressure that is being applied to the foot helps to promote relaxation and healing to correspondent organ and system.

Reflexology is used to compliment standard medical treatments and it has many health benefits that include:

  • Reduction in physical and emotional pain
  • Reduction in anxiety
  • Improved circulation
  • Improved nerve function
  • Reduction of headaches
  • Improved bowel function
  • Increased metabolism and energy levels
  • Ease of PMS symptoms
  • Ease of pregnancy discomfort
